Did you see the northern lights last night? (5 photos)

Clear skies in remote areas offered the best chances to view the aurora borealis.

A recent solar storm set up a dazzling light show in skies across the province last night.

Conditions were favourable yesterday for viewing the northern lights — also called aurora borealis — across much of Ontario.

Last night’s light show was the result of a strong geomagnetic storm that hit Earth Monday, according to US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Centre.

Clear skies in remote areas — away from light pollution — offered the best chances to view the Northern Lights.

Village Media photojournalist Kenneth Armstrong photographed the northern lights last night northwest of Sault Ste. Marie on the shore of Lake Superior.
