Deadline Changed for Summer Student Program : Applications Available Soon

With the Federal Government moving up the deadline, Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is encouraging groups and organizations in the riding to start thinking about their requests for summer student job funding.

With the Federal Government moving up the deadline, Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is encouraging groups and organizations in the riding to start thinking about their requests for summer student job funding. The application process opens on December 2nd and closes January 10th.

Angus says this is a terrific opportunity for local groups. “Ottawa is providing funding once again this year to help offset some of the labour costs of hiring students but you will have to be ready sooner.

Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

Angus says the interest each year is great. “People do take advantage of this program as evident in the number of applications we receive. But I still would like to see those groups and organizations that are not aware of such a program, to get an application together. For small groups, budgets are tight and so this financial assistance is very welcome.”

Angus says his office has an excellent relationship with Service Canada. “We support this program and we encourage local organizations to consider applying for this project funding.”
