Ten year-old Dakota Filion, in Grade 5 at Pinecrest Public School, took over as Timmins Police Chief on Thursday, May 15.

Dakota won the opportunity through a contest hosted by the Timmins Police, as part of Police Week 2014. Her essay “What it means to be a police officer,” was the top entry of 73 essays received by the TPS.

Chief Dakota’s day started off by being picked up at school in a police cruiser.

From there, Chief Dakota came to the Timmins Police Service, where she was officially sworn in as Chief for the day.

Finally, after a hard morning of running the police department, Chief Dakota took a lunch break, generously provided by Tim Hortons (Algonquin Drive location.) A big thank you to Rob Knox and Linda Venneri for lunch, and for the special ‘chief’ donut for Dakota.
