Crews battling new forest fire in Timmins area

Aircraft have been filling up at Kamiskotia Lake

Forest fire crews are battling a fire north of Kamiskotia Lake.

According to the Ontario Forest Fire Map, the fire started today (July 5) just before 3 p.m. It's located east of Hicks-Oke Bog Provincial Park.

The fire is currently listed at 7 hectares in size and is not under control.

Photos and video from Kamiskotia Lake show Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry aircraft filling up.

The fire hazard in the region ranges from low to extreme.

New fires as of July 5 at 3:37 p.m. were:

  • Sudbury No. 45: Found on July 5 at 2:53 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 44: Found on July 5 at 2:16 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.3 of a hectare.
  • Sudbury No. 43: Found on July 5 at 10:35 a.m. and is considered not under control at three hectares. 
  • Sudbury No. 42: Found on July 4 at 8:13 p.m. and is considered extinguished. 
  • Sudbury No. 41: Found on July 4 at 7:47 p.m. and is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 40: Found on July 4 at 7:38 p.m. and is being held at 0.3 of a hectare. 
  • North Bay No 18: Found on July 5 at 3:07 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • North Bay No. 17: Found on July 5 at 9:49 a.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Chapleau No. 4: Found on July 4 at 5:03 p.m. and is being held at 0.2 of a hectare.
