Through its Giving for Good program, the Northern Credit Union has been handing out cash to charitable organizations in the 21 communities it has offices.

In Timmins, the credit union supported the Timmins and Area Women in Crisis shelter to help with holiday costs.

In a Facebook post, the local branch manager said the shelter couldn't afford to hold its annual Christmas party for the women and children using the service over the holidays. The donation is for a Christmas dinner and gifts for the kids.

"In total, Northern Credit Union donated $42,000 monetarily and in-kind toward charities, organizations and families who require extra help to get by in a society of rising inflation rates and decreasing donation rates," reads a news release from the credit union.
