COVID-19 outbreak declared at Pick of the Crop

An outbreak has been declared at a Timmins grocery store. 

It's at Pick of the Crop, where four people are confirmed cases. According to the Porcupine Health Unit, the cases are related to the workplace.

"The PHU is working closely with this workplace to ensure the infection prevention and control measures are in place. The management at Pick of the Crop are taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of COVID-19," reads the health unit announcement. 

Pick of the Crop has been closed since 6 p.m. 

According to its Facebook page, the store will remain closed until further notice. It is not offering curbside or delivery.

Today, 23 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the region, with 15 of those being in Timmins.

To date, there have been 879 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region. As of Friday, at least 619 are recovered and 26 people have died. While the health unit reports new cases on the weekend, recoveries are not updated. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.

There is a provincial shutdown and stay-at-home order in effect until at least June 2.
