Eleven new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region today.

So far this month, there have been 503 new cases reported in the region.

To date, there have been 1,870 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,475 are recovered and 27 people have died. There are 368 known active cases — 73 in Timmins, 265 in the James Bay region, 16 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, four in the Kapuskasing area, and one out of region, and the location of nine cases are listed as unknown.

Over the weekend, an additional five Delta variants of concern were confirmed in previously reported Timmins cases. There have now been nine confirmed cases of the more contagious B.1.617.2 variant in the city.

Today. Public Health Ontario reported 447 new cases in the province. Today's update also includes 670 new recoveries and four deaths.

Vaccinations

So far, 46,666 people have been vaccinated in the region. There have been 58,786 doses administered.

Because the region is a Delta variant hotspot, accelerated second doses are being offered.

For second doses, people must be 16 years or older to receive Pfizer and 18 years or older to receive Moderna. The first dose of an mRNA vaccine must have also been administered at least 28 days ago.

More Moderna vaccines have been received in the region. Second dose clinics are being offered in Timmins this week and will be extended throughout the district the week of June 21, according to the health unit.

The health unit's booking system is temporarily offline and is expected to be back up and running tomorrow at 9 a.m. More on that story is available here.

Outbreaks

There are two active outbreaks in the region.

One is at Dutch Love Cannabis in Timmins. It was declared June 7. The outbreak that was reported at the Monteith Correctional Complex May 14 is still ongoing as well.

Reopening

While the rest of Ontario has entered the Roadmap to Reopen, the health unit region remains under the emergency brake restrictions until at least June 24.

The health unit has not provided details on what is required for the region to reopen or what the local reopening could look like.
