Two new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

To date, there have been 881 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 605 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 250 known active cases — 217 in Timmins, 22 in the region of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, nine in the James and Hudson Bay region, one in the Kapuskasing area, and one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

So far, 37,383 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase1,631 from the last report Friday. There have been 38,835 doses of the vaccine administered.

Looking to book a vaccine? Find a list of local clinics being held this week here. Vaccines are open to all adults 18 years of age and older. Locally, in addition to that, 16- or 17-year-old essential workers who cannot work from home can book into a clinic offering the Pfizer vaccine.

Over the weekend, Timmins and District Hospital doubled the number of COVID-positive patients at the facility, leading to a joint plea with the health unit to urge the community to do its part to slow the spread of the virus. As of this morning, there are still 10 in-patients with COVID-19. There are more visitor restrictions in place at Timmins and District Hospital. Find out all the details here

The new outbreaks announced within the last week are at Pick of the Crop, the Timmins and District Hospital off-site facility at St Mary's Gardens, EACOM, and the Monteith Correctional Centre
