A councillor's support for Downtown Timmins hasn't gone unnoticed.

During the Downtown Timmins BIA's presentation to council this week, Coun. Andrew Marks was given the organization's first-ever award of distinction for his 35 years of support.

“Coun. Marks began his volunteer career with Downtown Timmins right out of high school when he was working for Mr. Roberts’ Clothes for Men," said BIA board president Jamie Roach.

"Throughout the years he has volunteered at events, organized activities and currently leads on our board of management. Coun. Marks is a passionate advocate for downtown and truly understands that their success is the measure of success for the entire city. He leads from the front and always advocates for a stronger and better downtown."
