NEWS RELEASE

CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY

*************************
Canadian Cancer Society is once again holding Cops for Cancer at the Urban Park in downtown Timmins on Friday, June 26 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This year, in addition to head shaving, there will be a fundraising BBQ sponsored by Fountain Tire.

There will also be mystery envelopes available again with a variety of prizes and gift cards up for grabs.

Envelopes will be various prices and each envelope will contain an item or items valued higher than the cost of the envelope.

The mystery is that you don’t find out what is in your envelope until you purchase it!

We welcome everyone in the community to get involved in any way. It is not necessary to shave your head to participate.

You can fundraise in many different ways such as biking, car washes and much more.

We’re here to assist if you have questions.

Police officers, along with emergency service personnel, play a leadership role in organizing the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer events by involving communities across Ontario in fundraising and cancer awareness activities.

The events range from head shaves in public places to participating in bike rides such as Pedal for Hope to organizing various school-based fundraising activities (e.g. car wash or sporting tournament).

To raise funds in the fight against cancer, event participants collect pledges from their co-workers, friends and family and community members.

Funds raised at Cops for Cancer in Timmins 2015 will help:

  • fund the most promising research projects in the country on all types of cancer
  • provide information services and support programs in the community
  • advocate for public policy that prevent cancer and help those living with it
