When Cassandra Sinnaeve was first approached about being in a pageant, she wasn’t sure.

After a bit of research, she is now representing Schumacher in the Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant.

“It doesn’t focus on beauty, it’s more like self-confidence,” she said, explaining there are workshops focussed on inner beauty.

The O’Gorman High School grad was just accepted to the Humber Theatre Arts program.

While she’s comfortable on stage when it’s for something rehearsed, she’s nervous speaking in public.

“My main goal is to overcome my shyness and public speaking, that’s my main goal personally,” she said.

The pageant organization partners with Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC), and Sinnaeve said delegates are asked to raise money for them.

“Mine is a dress fundraiser. So what I’m doing is I’m getting friends to donate dresses to me and I’m using some of my own dresses and selling them for a cheaper price and all the money that I get for that is going to the fundraiser,” she said.

The clothes up for sale include everything from fun summer dresses to formal grad dresses.

“This is actually a nice time to start it because a lot of people are getting ready for grads soon and looking for dresses, I have a few formal dresses on there already,” she said.

You can check out what's up for sale on the NOFCC Dress Fundraiser Facebook page.

The competition is May 9 to 11, but online voting for the favourite contestant is open until May 1.

“I’d encourage anyone to vote for me, that’d be great,” she said.
