The Indigenous Advisory Committee is looking to fill several vacant positions.
The Timmins committee is looking for four people — two regular members and two youth representatives.
The maximum number of members allowed is 10 plus two youth representatives, according to the committee's terms of reference. There are currently eight members.
So far, five people have applied for committee member positions.
City clerk Steph Palmateer said the committee will be advertising the two youth member seats as the committee hasn’t been able to fill those positions.
To join be eligible, a youth representative must be an Indigenous person 25 years or younger.
Transportation to attend in-person meetings will be provided to youth members, so there are “no barriers” as to why they can’t show up, said the committee's interim chair Kristin Murray.
Interested applicants can submit their expression of interest to the chair and city clerk, include reasons why they want to join the committee and list their gifts, abilities and areas of knowledge. The chair makes the decision about the new members, then the recommendation goes to council for final approval.
Applications submitted before the next committee meeting in March will be considered, Palmateer said.
