Cochrane man faces slew of drug trafficking and other charges after traffic stop

COCHRANEOn July 18, 2017, at approximately 11 a.m., Cochrane officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 in the Town of Cochrane.

Police investigation revealed that the registration for the motor vehicle had not been renewed and that it was no longer insured.

Further investigation revealed that the male driver was in possession of controlled substances.

Police seized methamphetamine, crystal methamphetamine, MDMA/ecstasy, cannabis resin and cannabis marijuana with a total estimated street value of $2,720 as well as drug production equipment. Police also seized $2,795 in Canadian currency.

David Andrews, 32 of Cochrane, Ont. has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - MDMA/ecstasy contrary to section 5(2) (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule II substance - cannabis resin - over 1 gram contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
  • Traffick in schedule I substance - methamphetamines (crystal meth) contrary to section 5(1) CDSA
  • Traffick in Schedule I Substance - MDMA contrary to section 5(1) CDSA
  • Produce a schedule II substance - cannabis resin contrary to section 7(1) CDSA
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario (CAIA)
  • Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on Sept. 19, 2017 to answer to the charges.
