Club's new project keeping students warm (2 photos)

Les Perles du Nord has donated $2K to two Timmins schools

Club Richelieu Les Perles du Nord has launched a new project that will provide winter clothing to children in need.

For the Adopting Two Schools project, the non-profit organization donated a total of $2,000 to École catholique Jacques-Cartier and École catholique St-Gérard in Timmins. The cheque presentation took place Tuesday, Nov. 3.

“It will be up to the schools to go purchase the required clothing and distribute it to the children in need," said Sylvie Sylvestre, the club’s president.

Each school received $1,000 with funds raised through the Timmins Charitable Gaming Association.

“They were quite thankful of our generosity,” Sylvestre said. “They didn’t expect a $1,000 each and we will keep them in mind for the remainder of the year because those are the two schools we decided to adopt this year. We’ll reach out to them again during the year to see if there are more requirements.”

Since this is the project's first year, there’s a possibility it could continue on an annual basis, Sylvestre said.

“We are very pleased with the idea of this project and helping out," she said. "We'll see how it goes and we'll take it from there."
