City honours champions

Local weightlifting champions Andre Goulet and Paul Perreault, and head coach Bob Boisvert were honoured by the City of Timmins on Monday evening. They recently competed in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California.

They recently competed in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California.

Mayor Steve Black presented them with special plaques.

“We had two of our local athletes go down and represent our city, and they did so quite successfully. I wish I could have been there to greet you when you came back, but I was at a conference out of town” said Black.

Black then read council a brief bio of each weightlifter.

“Andre Goulet has been involved with the Special Olympics for eight years. He credits with helping him stay out of trouble, keep in shape, and be more focused driven and determined in everything he does. Being a part of Team Canada means a lot to Andre, and its been his goal since he started powerlifting eight years ago” read Black.

“Paul Perrault has attended four national games in powerlifting, and has been a part of Team Canada's delegation at the 2003 World Games in Dublin, Ireland. Paul has met a lot of new people and made many friendships by being involved with Special Olympics” added Black.

Goulet won three gold medals and one silver medal. Perreault took home three silver medals and one bronze.
