Citing sources, the National Post is reporting that Charlie Angus will soon announce a bid for the leadership of the federal NDP.

Angus, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Timmins-James Bay, has reportedly notified party leadership of his plan to step down from his position as caucus chair before the holidays and the Post goes on to say that a leadership bid announcement would come soon after.

The 54-year-old Angus has served Timmins-James Bay since 2004. He currently serves as indigenous and northern affairs critic.

In an email Angus called the report "speculation in the papers."
