The member of parliament for Timmins has thrown his hat in the ring for leadership of the his party — sort of.

Charlie Angus, MP for Timmins — James Bay, registered as an NDP leadership candidate on Monday, according to the Elections Canada web site.

However, Angus said on his Facebook account yesterday, “dear friends, I'm going to take a decision very soon. I thank you for your support.”

Currently, Peter Julian is the only other leadership contender in the race.

The eventual winner of the contest will replace outgoing NDP leader Thomas Mulcair, who was voted out by the party after a third-place showing in the 2015 federal election.

Mulcair is expected to continue acting as interim leader until the contest is decided.
