TORONTO – Today in front of a capacity crowd at the Horseshoe Tavern, Charlie Angus kicked off his campaign to be the next Leader of Canada’s NDP.

“It’s time to bring some fire, some passion and some hope for change back to this country. It’s time for proud New Democrats to build a new progressive movement,” said Angus.

As a natural leader, Charlie empowers strong voices around him and reaches across party lines to move the NDP agenda forward. But as a straight-talking politician, Charlie isn't afraid to speak truth to power and rattle a few cages along the way.

“Everyday families, the little guy, and those left behind – that’s who the NDP stands up for,” added Angus. “We understand the false divisions of rural from urban, millennial from baby boomer, pit truck drivers in Fort Mac from bike couriers in Vancouver. The real divisions that exist in our country are economic.”

As a NDP Member of Parliament since 2004, Charlie understands NDP values and how to turn them into action. With a vision rooted in the history and principles of the NDP, Charlie is ready to lead.

“The NDP needs to be the voice of those living with high student debt and endless cycles of contract work; those who put their progressive faith in the Liberals in the last election and were lied to,” said Angus. “New Democrats know what we stand for, we know who we represent – it’s time to organize and turn our dreams into action.”
