Timmins man facing charges following several arson incidents

During the early morning hours of October 2, 2015, Timmins Police patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the area of Elm St. S.

Further investigation revealed that the fire had been set deliberately.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire.

Upon searching the area, officers located an individual in the area and attempted to speak with him regarding unrelated matters.

The individual fled from police on foot, but was quickly located by police.

Upon attempting to effect an arrest, officers on scene were assaulted, and a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed in order to gain control of the individual, bringing the incident to a safe resolution.

Later in the day, police received reports of at least two additional attempted arsons on vehicles, where residents reported that it appeared their gas tanks had been tampered with.

Justin Bouvier, 24, of Timmins now faces charges of arson, assault peace officer, and escape lawful custody.

He was held pending a bail hearing scheduled for today, October 5, 2015.

The investigation is ongoing by the Criminal Investigation Section, and further charges may be pending.
