TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

**********************
On August 22, 2017, at approximately 5:15 p.m., police attended the intersection of Algonquin Blvd. and Brunette Road for reports of a collision involving a recycling truck.

Initial investigation indicated that a recycling truck transporting a C-Can containing metal recyclables was travelling westbound on Algonquin Blvd., and turned southbound onto Brunette Road. At this point, the C-Can, which was unsecured, became dislodged and fell off the truck, causing metal debris of various sizes to spill onto the roadway.

As the collision affected Hydro, the Timmins Fire Department and Hydro One attended the scene. Brunette Road was closed temporarily to allow for clean-up of the road.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision. The driver of the recycling truck was charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences, including Driving with Insecure Load.

In relation to this incident, several drivers were also charged with Driving on a Closed Highway after attempting to drive on the closed road. The Timmins Police Service would like to remind the public that road closures are put in place for various reasons, including police investigations and public safety. In this case, the safety of the public was top of mind with debris scattered on the roadway and Hydro being affected. Drivers are reminded that driving on a closed roadway is dangerous, and could result in charges being laid.

The collision remains under investigation.
