The 81st season of the Porcupine Music Festival de musique (PMFM) has been one for the history books since the founding of the organization. As the COVID-19 pandemic threatened to force a second cancellation of the annual event, the PMFM was creatively re-invented as an E-Festival, which for the past few months has given local music students the opportunity to virtually share their talents and hone their music learning.

All Festival entries were videoed by students and music teachers, and submitted for digital review by a panel of adjudicators in strings, instrumental, piano, and voice divisions. Now that participants have received the adjudicators’ feedback, all involved in this year’s E-Festival are gearing up for the organization’s first virtual final concert which will include adjudicator-selected performances and the awarding of scholarships.

Pivoting from a much-loved and in-person annual event to the 2021 Festival’s virtual format was no simple task for organizers, music teachers, and participants. However, during a year that has left so many elementary and secondary school music programs struggling, the PMFM E-Festival continues to celebrate local musical excellence and highlight the importance of music learning. The PMFM Board of Directors would like to thank all involved in making this year’s E-Festival not only a possibility but a wonderful success.

The 2021 PMFM E-Festival virtual final concert will air on Sunday, June 27 at 7 p.m. Viewers can tune in on the Festival’s Facebook page or on the Festival’s Youtube page, Porcupine Music Festival de Musique.
