NEWS RELEASE

NORTHEASTERN CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

*************************
Project Overseas is a joint endeavour of the Canadian Teachers' Federation and its provincial and territorial teacher organizations, to support overseas partners in developing countries as they deliver professional services to teachers.

Since 1962, Project Overseas has assisted teacher organizations in over 50 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and the Caribbean.

The main objectives of the program consist of Canadian teachers working as co-tutors with colleagues overseas to strengthen teacher competence through in-service courses.

The program also assists overseas teacher organizations as they strengthen their capacity to provide professional services to members. The program addresses gender equality for teachers, and assists in the development of girl-friendly school environments and works to eliminate school based gender violence.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Jeanette Foy, Kindergarten immersion teacher from St. Jerome School in Kirkland Lake applied to this program. In late, November she was contacted to attend an interview in Toronto in early December.

Shortly after the interview, she was advised that she was a successful candidate, but had to wait until January for her placement.

This week she found out that her placement will be in Haiti for the majority of July. She is looking forward to this great experience and hopes to be able to share her learning with staff and students upon her return.

On behalf of the staff at Northeastern Catholic School Board, we wish her all the best this summer. In the words of St. Augustine, "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." Turn that page and enjoy every word of your new adventure.
