A Grade 12 student has a seat at the Northeastern Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) this year.

O'Gorman High School's Micah Aguinaldo is the student trustee for the upcoming school year.

“I am very honoured to have been selected as the Student Trustee of 2020-2021 and I will try my best to fulfill my duties as a representative of O’Gorman High School.  I hope everyone is healthy and safe during this pandemic," she said in a news release.

There are a number of reasons she wanted to be the representative.

"First, I am glad that one teacher encouraged me to be involved in extracurricular activities, especially the Addams Family Musical and now this. This teacher believed in me despite how shy I was," she said.

"Secondly, my fear has always been public speaking mainly because English is not my first language. However, every day I strive to step outside of my comfort zone because I don’t want to live with that fear anymore. As a student trustee, I will communicate information about school life to adults rather than my peer group, which will provide me with a great challenge. Overall, I am very thankful that I have been selected as the student trustee for the 2020-2021. I will use my voice for good purposes, helping my fellow students and be a good model for the school and the broader NCDSB community.”

According to the news release, Aguinaldo's hobbies include taking walks in nature with her family and her dog. She also likes to sing musical theatre, and popular and country music, and play soccer. In the future, she wants to study to be a pharmacist.

She said Catholic education is important because it teaches "great values in life such as looking out for each other and loving one another. Daily exposure in our faith also builds strong relationships with God and people around us. The school educates us with moral values which help the students live a fulfilling life by practicing honesty, respect and owning and learning from mistakes.”
