MOOSE FACTORY - The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced an investment of $320,000 to support business development and growth, job creation and the economic prosperity in the Mushkegowuk region.

The FedNor investment will support the ongoing operations of the Wakenagun Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) for a one-year period.

Specifically, the funding will enable this not-for profit, business-focused organization to provide small and medium-sized enterprises with access to capital and business counselling services, as well as support for community strategic planning initiatives.

The Wakenagun CFDC is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities.

  • The funding announced today is provided through FedNor's Community Futures Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation.

  • Based in Moose Factory, the Wakenagun CFDC is a community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by a volunteer board and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.

  • The Wakenagun CFDC services the communities of Fort Severn, Peawanuck, Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Moose Cree, Fort Albany, Missanabie Cree and the Taykwa Tagamou First Nations, as well as Moose Factory and the Town of Moosonee.
