An annual Christmas toy drive is underway in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service, Victim's Services - Timmins and District, and the Bargain Shop work together for the event.

"The campaign's success depends heavily on the generosity of local citizens who can spare a few dollars and donate a purchased unwrapped toy that will make its way to the home of children of meagre means," reads the Timmins Police news release.

Donations can be dropped off at the police station on Spruce Street South before Dec. 5.

Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. community services officers will be at the Bargain Shop on Algonquin Boulevard for the toy drive to wrap up the event.

"Once a final tally has been made, the Timmins Police platoons in consultation with Victim's Services - Timmins and District, will identify and locate families in need of a little bit of a boost this Christmas," said police.

"The Timmins Police is eager to receive donations of unwrapped newly purchased toys so that the less fortunate amongst us can celebrate with a new treasure or toy."
