MP Charlie Angus is thanking the people who will be coming out to area vigils to show their concern over the tragedy of murdered and missing women.
On Saturday, October 4 vigils will be held in Cochrane and Timmins by area Friendship Centers.
Angus has been speaking in the House of Commons on the need to launch an inquiry into why so many Indigenous women have gone missing.
"Canadians want answers. They also want to see that their government takes these ongoing tragedies seriously. It is clear that there are many factors involved and an inquiry can help bring all the relevant players to the table to find solutions."
The New Democrats have committed to launching an inquiry within the first 100 days as government.
The Cochrane Ininew Friendship Centre and Timmins Native Friendship Centre will be holding vigils for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women this Saturday, October 4.
Timmins will be holding a 2 p.m. vigil followed by a social until 4 p.m.
Cochrane will be having a moment of silence at 1:30 p.m. and a “Strong Women Walk” to the Heading Garden at 5 p.m. followed by a candlelight vigil.
Every year on October 4 communities come together to hold candle light vigils in honour of the Indigenous women who have gone missing and been murdered throughout Canada.
More than 200 Vigils are being organized in every region of the country this year.
“While the Conservative government refuses to take action, New Democrats have been calling for a National Inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women. I stand with Canadians across this country who are demanding action.”
