It is a little-known fact that passengers at the Timmins Victor M. Power Airport with mobility issues are permitted an escort through the Security checkpoint.

Airport administration and airline staff at the airport, and members of the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) recognize that some passengers may require special assistance prior to boarding the airplane, which is why measures are in place to allow friends, family or caregivers through to the waiting area.

“Of course, everyone who goes through security requires a document of entitlement to do so, which is typically your boarding pass,” explained Airport Manager David Dayment.

“The escort, while not in possession of a boarding pass, can be issued a document of entitlement at the check-in counter upon request. These persons would also be subject to the same screening as those boarding the aircraft.”
