NEWS RELEASE

MOOSONEE — On the evening of Nov. 25, the Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Moosonee Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) responded to a pedestrian in distress on the Moose River. The pedestrian was stranded on a small island due to the unsafe ice surrounding him.

The male was rescued by the MVFD without injury.

The OPP are reminding the communities of Moosonee and Moose Factory that the river is in the process of freezing and the ice conditions are not safe for crossing. Crossing the river on a snowmobile or by foot would not only put yourself at risk, but would also put the lives of those that may have to rescue you at risk as well.

There are other options for crossing the river until the river is frozen and Police ask that residents use those options in the meantime.
