A new ammonia exhaust system is being installed at the McIntyre Arena.

The $81,302 contract was awarded to Action Refrigeration and Electrical at a special council meeting today.

The need for the exhaust system was discovered during a study of the ice plant room, said manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Glenn Thurston. The room is not compliant with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards and is a health and safety issue, he said.

JL Richards did the compliance review of the compressor room and also designed the new exhaust system, according to the staff report.

The installation work is not included in the 2021 capital budget.

The cost will be covered by savings on two budgeted projects — the HR Bielek exterior cladding and interior drywall repairs, and exterior wall repair projects at the McIntyre arena.
