7.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Nepal

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake centred at Lalitpur on the outskirts of Kathmandu in the Hilalayas has left more than 1,000 people dead and the death toll is climbing, reports theguardian.

The quake caused a massive avalanche on Mount Everest and caused damage to the mountain base camp.

It also toppled an ancient Dharaha tower and has been called the worst tremor in 80 years.
