6 new COVID-19 cases, no recoveries reported Thursday

Six new COVID-19 cases and no recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Sept. 23). 

Four of the people are in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls area, and two people are in Timmins.

To date, there have been 2,205 cases of the virus in the region since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 2,158 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 16 known active cases — seven in Timmins, eightt in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls area, and one in the James Bay area.

So far, 53,469 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which is an increase of 126 from yesterday's report. There have been 101,026 doses of the vaccine administered.

The COVID-19 vaccine passport is in effect. It requires proof of vaccination for people 12 years and older in certain high-risk public spaces.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
