38 new COVID-19 cases reported Sunday

There are 38 new COVID-19 cases being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (June 6).

Ten of the cases are in Timmins, 25 are in the James Bay area, two are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and one is in the Kapuskasing area. 

The exposure of 14 cases is under investigation and 24 people are the contacts of a case.

To date, there have been 1,606 COVID-19 cases in the region since the start of the pandemic. As of Friday, there had been 1,164 recoveries and 27 people have died. While the health unit reports new cases on the weekend, the number of known active cases and recoveries is not updated.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
