$36,000 in drugs seized during RIDE check

MATHESON - On Feb. 6, 2018 at 12:40 a.m., the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a R.I.D.E program at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 577 in Stock Township, approximately 15 kilometres west of Matheson.  

A vehicle entered the checkpoint and as a result the OPP seized an amount of suspected methamphetamine and suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $36,000. Assisting with this investigation was the OPP Community Street Crime Unit.

The OPP have arrested and charged Devin Frison, 23 years old, of Kirkland Lake, Ont. with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA and,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Also charged is Gilbert Bailey, 19 years old, of Kirkland Lake, Ont. His offences include:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA and,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Both individuals were released on a promise to appear. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins, Ont. on April 10, 2018.
