2017 brings two favourites Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet to Timmins’ dining menu

Old BK location gets new life

Timmins will have two new places to eat out this New Year with the opening of a Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet restaurant on Algonquin Blvd. East next to Dailey’s Independent Grocery at the old Burger King location.

Drivers and pedestrians passing by Algonquin Blvd. East may have noticed a new shape taking place to the old Burger King building which will feature a peaked roof now that its being transformed into a Harvey's and Swiss Chalet.

Of course, those who again have made losing weight their New Year resolution may have to delay the start of their pledge as they may give in to the temptation of the new Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet Franchise.

The grand opening for The Harvey’s – Swiss Chalet outlet is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.

“Cara Foods, the company that operates Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet, thought it was a good idea to return to the Timmins market,” said new General Manager and franchisee Marcio Ferreira. “We are going to be offering full restaurant service on our Swiss Chalet side and typical fast foods sit down on the Harvey’s side.”

Ferreira, who was in Timmins last week to hold two days of job fairs to hire staff, said the return of the Harvey’s- Swiss Chalet restaurant will create 45 new jobs in Timmins.

“We have hired quite a few cashiers, counter help, servers and cooks,” explained Ferreira. “But we still have some positions open.”

“For people interested in being part of the wait staff at Swiss Chalet, they must be over the age of 19 and have their smart serve as we will be licensed,” added Ferreira.

On the Harvey’s side staff should be 15 years and older with a social insurance number.

At the present time the closest Harvey and Swiss Chalet combination is in Cochrane, Ontario. A standalone Harvey’s restaurant is also located in New Liskeard. Harvey’s is renowned for its open flame-grilled hamburgers and cheeseburgers, where customers can select their toppings, while Swiss Chalet serves rotisserie broiled and grilled chicken, ribs , sandwiches, salads and soups.

Harvey’s has been operating since 1959 and will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2019.

Swiss Chalet has been operating since 1954 throughout Canada serving rotisserie and grilled chicken meals.

And recognized for its family dining that is child friendly.

Harvey’s hamburgers are renowned for being open flame-grilled at 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

This will be a happy return for Swiss Chalet and Harvey's to Timmins. A duel franchise operated in Timmins during the 1990s.

As for Ferreira who is from Hamilton, Ontario, he is looking forward to settling in Timmins and finding a soccer team and league to pursue his passion – soccer.
