2 new COVID-19 cases, 14 recoveries reported today

There are 250 known active cases in the region, with 217 of those being in Timmins

Two new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. 

Since Friday, there have also been 14 recoveries. 

One of the new cases is in Timmins and one is in the James and Hudson Bay region. Both of the cases are under investigation. 

To date, there have been 881 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 605 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 250 known active cases — 217 in Timmins, 22 in the region of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, nine in the James and Hudson Bay region, one in the Kapuskasing area, and one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

So far, 37,383 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase1,631 from the last report Friday. There have been 38,835 doses of the vaccine administered.

As of 10 a.m. today, there remains 10 people admitted to Timmins and District Hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to TADH communications specialist Kaileigh Russell. 

“While our ICU capacity remains stable we are continuing to see a large number of COVID-related visits and admissions to hospital. As was released this weekend, the average age for COVID-related hospital admission remains below 50 years old," she said. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.

There is a provincial shutdown and stay-at-home order in effect until at least June 2.
