2 additional COVID cases reported, outbreak declared at EACOM

Two additional COVID-19 cases and an outbreak are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit this afternoon. 

One of the new cases is in Timmins and one is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. A total of 31 cases have been confirmed in the region today.

The outbreak is at EACOM's Timmins sawmill, where there are four confirmed cases. The sawmill is voluntarily temporarily shutdown. 

To date there have been 771 confirmed COVID cases in the region. Of those, 578 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 167 known active cases in the region.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
