12 COVID-19 cases, 53 recoveries reported Wednesday

There are 304 known active cases, including 45 in Timmins and 240 in the James Bay area

Twelve new COVID-19 cases and 53 recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (June 16).

There are 11 cases in the James Bay area and one person is in Timmins.

One person is the contact of a case and the exposure of 11 is under investigation, according to the health unit.

To date, there have been 1,901 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,570 are recovered and 27 people have died. There are 304 known active cases — 45 in Timmins, 240 in the James Bay region, nine in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, three in the Kapuskasing area and the location of seven cases are listed as unknown.

So far, at least 46,810 people have been vaccinated. There have been 60,388 doses of the vaccines administered. These numbers are the same as yesterday's report.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
