1 death, 38 new cases, 84 recoveries reported Friday

One COVID-related death, 38 new cases and 84 recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

The health unit did not say where in the region the death occurred. It is the sixth so far this year.

At Timmins and District Hospital there are 18 patients with COVID-19, down from 22 yesterday. Four of the admissions were for reasons related to the virus. There are 52 people who have been tested are waiting for test results or who will be tested.

The total number of hospitalizations in the region is not known as the health unit doesn't report hospitalizations. 

For the new cases, 18 are in Timmins, eight are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, six are in the James Bay area, two are in the Kapuskasing area and four are in Hearst and Hornepayne.

To date, there have been 4,189 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 3,702 are recovered and 37 people have died. There are 450 known active cases — 176 in Timmins, 73 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 42 in the Kapuskasking area, 68 in Hearst and Hornepayne, 90 in the James Bay area, and one out of region.

Due to changes in testing, case numbers are underestimated.
