Take a peek at the new Timmins LCBO (9 photos)

The 10,065 square-foot store opens on Tuesday, May 10

With high ceilings and a modern, spacious layout, the new centralized LCBO is ready to open its doors.

It's been nearly two years since the expansion to the Shoppers Drug Mart building at the Morris A. Feldman Developments was approved by Timmins council.

Located at 681 Algonquin Blvd., the 10,065 square-foot store opens on Tuesday, May 10.

While the South Porcupine and existing Timmins locations were open during construction, both stores are now closed.

There are 22 full-time and part-time staff and an LCBO spokesperson said all employees from the other locations have accepted transferring to the new store.

The new store has 6,852 square feet of display space and carries over 1,783 wines, spirits, beers, ready-to-drink cocktails coolers, says the company. The Ontario wine display showcases more than 160 Ontario wines, including nearly 100 VQA wines.

Market research — matching products to local tastes, demographics and community interests — has informed the products available, says the LCBO.

While there are five checkouts and the store is fully accessible, same-day pickup service is also available on lcbo.com. After placing an order, it ready for pickup within three hours or less.

The new store hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

The LCBO is just the first new business to open in the plaza at the intersection of Algonquin and Highway 655.

Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen is slated to open by year-end and a Starbucks is rumoured to be opening there as well. TimminsToday has reached out to Starbucks. While they didn't confirm the new location, they said they would provide an update when more is known. In that area, Tisdale Mechanical Contracting and Grainger also recently relocated to the former Acklands building.

With the extra traffic expected, a Timmins councillor is looking to speed up a report on the traffic lights to make sure people leaving the development can make a safe left-hand turn.
