A local association is doing its part to make sure local trails are up to par.
Recently, the Timmins Porcupine Insurance Brokers Association (TPIBA) donated $20,000 to the Wintergreen Fund for Conservation. The cash is for recreational trail maintenance and upgrades.
“The recreational trail system is available for everyone to use at no cost, and for that reason, we felt that this donation would be a good contribution to the community as a whole,” said Dan Ayotte, of PAIB Insurance and a TPIBA board member.
Wintergreen is the charitable arm of the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA).
The group is currently raising money to support the MRCA's work to maintaining a network of non-motorized trails that extend from the Mattagami River to Porcupine Lake.
“We are extremely grateful for this generous donation from the Timmins Porcupine Insurance Brokers Association,” said Mark Joron, Wintergreen Fund for Conservation chair.
“Maintenance of these trails is very costly and donations like this are extremely important for the MRCA to continue with the regular maintenance and larger repairs that ensure user safety and allow residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature.”
