TIMMINS - Foodies have a delightful new spot to try.

Shawarma Delights had its grand opening today at 56 Second Ave, and Vakkas Momaya said it’s exciting to see the reaction to the new restaurant.

“It’s an honour and pleasure for us,” he said.

The Mediterranean and Lebanon-based menu includes chicken and beef shawarma, which is slow-cooked on a vertical spit visible from the front counter, soups, rice dishes, and shawarma poutines.

“Slowly as we go, we will introduce more items and serve the community and the people of Timmins wherever we can,” said Vakkas.

The restaurant is offering complimentary lentil soup today (March 12) as a thank you to the people supporting the business.

This is the second restaurant Momaya has opened at this location, which formerly housed the Fusion Grill. He said serving good food to people is a motivating factor for his business choices.

“I feel happy, and everyone has their own interest, and I am very interested in serving people,” he said. “It’s a different taste of food.”

Momaya said he’s fallen in love with the city and is thankful for the chance to share the food he enjoys with the community.

“I love Timmins,” he said. “It’s a really nice, quiet, peaceful place. It’s not crowded, it’s really peaceful and relaxing. And friendly people too.”

The Timmins BIA helped organize the event, and Downtown Timmins executive director Cory Robin said it’s a pleasure to see a new restaurant open downtown.

“Love new restaurants and new food,” said Robin. “So if you have a Downtown Timmins gift card, feel free to come here and use it.”

Shawarma Delights is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

They offer dine-in, take out and catering. Online ordering is available through their website.

“We have big family feast platters as well,” said Momaya.
