Signs of spring are popping up in windows across the city.

As a way to brighten up the city and help people keep busy while social distancing, Chelsea Beharriell started the Facebook group Timmins Easter egg hunt less than a week ago. Already nearly 2,000 people have joined online and are getting creative with inspirational messages and Easter decorations.

“Everybody’s decorating their windows, their yards, some are building snow sculptures, some have made even woodwork. It’s just a way to keep social distance and that way people can drive around with their kids,” she said.

With families staying at home due to COVID-19, Beharriell was looking for something to do with her two children.

Putting up Easter decorations turned into a scavenger hunt and the Facebook group.

She said decorating the window gives the kids something to do, then families can check out other people's creativity as they walk or drive around the neighbourhood.

“Kind of like what you would do around Christmas time with the Christmas lights,” she said.

She didn't expect it to grow as fast as it did, and said her phone and Facebook hasn't stopped going off in days.

The growing list of areas participating includes more than 200 streets across the city.

The Facebook page includes a scavenger hunt with items to cross off the list if you spot them in the displays.

For people decorating their yard, they can also enter the Timmins Kinettes social distancing yard decorating contest.

Until April 5, people can submit photos of their decorated yard to [email protected]. People will be able to vote for their favourite photo on the club's Facebook page.
