Two school boards have closed their playgrounds due to COVID-19.

A letter from Northeastern Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) director of education Tricia Stefanic Weltz said the school playgrounds are closed to the school communities and public effective yesterday (March 25).

"Signs will be posted as quickly as possible to provide this same message to all members of our NCDSB communities who are trying to access our playgrounds," reads the letter shared on the board's Facebook.

"We continue to encourage safe physical activity for our families during this extraordinary time, but we cannot ensure the proper disinfecting requirements to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in our communities. The closure of our playgrounds is a necessary measure to be taken and we trust that you understand that we are making this decision to help reduce the spread of COVID-19."

District School Board Ontario North East also announced the closure of its school playgrounds earlier this week on Facebook.
