Ontario confirms 95 new COVID cases today

29 of the province's 34 health units have reported five or fewer new cases in today's epidemiological summary

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 95 new COVID cases today, as well as 159 new recoveries, and one death. 

The latest death was an individual between the ages of 40 and 59. 

Of today's cases, 73 came from five health units and the remaining 29 health units in the province reported between zero and five new cases for today's epidemiological summary. 

Toronto Public Health reported the highest number of new cases with 30 included in today's report, and Ottawa reported 19. Southwestern and Peel each reported seven new cases and Chatham-Kent reported 10. 

Cases continue to increase in the middle two age groups with 44 new cases today in individuals aged 20 to 39, and 29 cases in individuals aged 40 to 59. 

According to today's update, there were no new cases discovered in people over the age of 80.

Since yesterday's summary, public health labs have processed 26,181 COVID tests. 

To date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 39,809 cases of COVID-19 in the province, declared 35,906 cases recovered, and reported 2,783 cases have ended in death. 

There are now 1,120 active cases of COVID in Ontario according to the information in today's update, and 71 of those people are hospitalized with the virus. There are 29 COVID patients in intensive care units and 13 patients are on ventilators. 

In Northern Ontario there are 21 known active cases.

The breakdown for the health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 27 cases, rate of 23.6 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases. There are no known active cases.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 72, rate of 86.3 per 100,000 population. There is one known active case. 

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 90 cases, rate of 45.2 per 100,000 population. There are 16 known active cases. 

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 44 cases, rate of 50.2 per 100,000. There is one known active case.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 99 cases, rate of 66 per 100,000. There are three known active cases. 

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 267.8.
