The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting the 19th-consecutive day with no new COVID-19 cases in the region.

The health unit is following one known active case locally.

To date, there have been 65 confirmed cases of the virus in the health unit's region.

In an update on Facebook, the health unit notes increased testing is being offered through the area. Thursday morning, the health unit reported it was aware of 4,886 tests being done locally. The website hasn't been updated with new numbers since.

"Any PHU resident who feels they need a test for COVID-19, even if they don't have symptoms, can go for testing at an assessment centre," reads the update on Facebook. "Call your health care provider or the health unit to access testing. Remember that the test only tells you if you have COVID-19 at that particular time you were tested. The test will not tell you if you’ve had COVID-19 before or does not mean that you won’t be exposed after the test. Therefore, it is important to continue with measures like physical distancing, wearing a face covering where physical distancing may be challenging, frequent handwashing and staying home when you are sick."

There are COVID-19 Assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
