It's been nearly three weeks since there's been a positive test for COVID-19 in the Timmins area.

The outbreak at South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls has also been ended, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

Today, the health unit reported no new confirmed COVID-19 cases for the 20th-straight day.

To date, there have been 65 cases in the region. Of those, 57 are resolved and seven people have died.

The health unit is aware of 5,071 test being done locally, which is an increase of 71 from yesterday's report. There are 159 tests under investigation.

While all the outbreaks at long-term care homes in the area are over, in today's update the health unit notes visitor restrictions remain in place for non-essential visitors. They suggest checking in with loved ones via phone, text or video chat.

The health unit is working also working with retirement homes, shelters and other congregate settings in the area for COVID-19 testings of staff and clients.

"Any PHU resident who feels they need a test for COVID-19, even if they don’t have symptoms, can go for testing at an assessment centre. Call your health care provider or the health unit to access testing," reads today's update.

"Remember that the test only tells you if you have COVID-19 at that particular time you were tested. The test will not tell you if you’ve had COVID-19 before or does not mean that you won’t be exposed after the test. Therefore, it is important to continue with measures like physical distancing, wearing a face covering where physical distancing may be challenging, frequent handwashing and staying home when you are sick."

There are COVID-19 Assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
