Nishnawbe Aski Nation offices in Timmins and Thunder Bay will remain closed until Sept. 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision will be re-assessed pending new information.

“Given the closure of schools and the uncertainty around childcare for our staff, not to mention the comfort level of sending children into group care settings this summer, the NAN Executive Council felt compelled to do this,” the statement reads. “We are very fortunate that we can maintain our important work remotely.”

NAN offices in both cities have been closed since March 16 but operations continue as normal.

Along with the NAN COVID-19 Task Team, NAN administration is exploring how to better work from home and is looking at how to host a NAN Chiefs’ Assembly remotely, according to NAN’s May 21 update.
