NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
***********************
Today, in an effort to better support Timmins businesses, the chamber and the city have launched their Business Continuity and Recovery Task Force to keep the Timmins business community informed on measures implemented by government to stimulate the economy and help our community remain afloat during these unprecedented times.

“The purpose of this group will be to mitigate the impact that COVID-19 has on our city’s business continuity and our workforce,” said Val Venneri, President of the Chamber. “This will include actions such as sharing best practices, addressing business disruption plans, sharing employee communications and other resources from public health authorities and discussing how to support our local, small business.”

The focus will be on government assistance measures and programs, small business support, exporting and trade, employment and legal issues, transportation, and any additional issues they are experiencing. The Task Force is comprised of various stakeholders and business support organizations in the community including the Venture Centre, FedNor, The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development, Mines, and Indigenous Affairs, the Downtown BIA, the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, as well as Mayor George Pirie, MP Charlie Angus, and MPP Gilles Bisson.

“The situation is continually evolving, and our overall goal is to create a readiness channel for all Timmins businesses – to help them be prepared to develop, where possible, a consistent communication and response plan to COVID-19,” added Venneri.

The Chamber website will continue to be populated with the group’s recommendations and expertise on best practices, as well as the most recent and relevant information pertaining to businesses; creating one centralized source of information to which businesses can refer.
