People at a New Liskeard event may have been exposed to COVID-19.

According to the Timiskaming Health Unit, the gathering happened Dec. 5 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Riverside Place in New Liskeard.

"With the combination of COVID-19 measures that were in place and the level of contact, the event is considered a low-risk exposure to those who attended the sit-down meal, the take-out meal, or received delivery," reads the news release.

"Anyone who attended this event needs to self-monitor for 14 days for symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms appear, immediately self-isolate and call your local assessment centre to arrange testing.

Today, two new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Timiskaming district.

Case 25 is a person in the southern part of the district, which includes the New Liskeard and Temagami areas, who is a close contact of a case outside the area. Case 26 is the close contact of previously reported cases in Timiskaming.

"Both individuals are currently isolating and the cases are presently under investigation. Contact tracing is underway and those who have been identified as close contacts have been, or are in the process of being notified," reads the bulletin.

Of the 26 confirmed cases, 19 are resolved. There are seven known active cases.

"As we enter the holiday season, it's important to keep our guard up regarding COVID-19. Avoid holiday gatherings with people outside of your household and continue to follow public health measures," said Dr. Glenn Corneil, Timiskaming Health Unit acting medical officer of health.

In the Timiskaming region, there are assessment centres in the areas of Temiskaming Shores, Englehart, Kirkland Lake, and Temagami. Testing is by appointment only.

The health unit's COVID-19 line phone number is 705-647-4305 ext. 7 or 1-866-747-4305 ext. 7. It is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to noon.
