The Porcupine Health Unit is confirming another death related to COVID-19.

It is a person linked to the outbreak at Extendicare Kapuskasing, which lasted from Jan. 6 to Feb. 24. As of yesterday, the health unit's website listed the person as being hospitalized.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of this individual during this difficult time. We are so sorry for your loss,” said Dr. Lianne Catton, Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health, in a news release.

A death reported earlier this year that was attributed to the virus has also been removed from the local numbers. According to the health unit, further investigation determined that the death was not associated with the virus.

To date, there have been 342 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region. Of those, 313 are recovered and 25 people have died — 16 of those were linked to the Extendicare Kapuskasing outbreak. There are four known active cases.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
